Mary J. Pliego Obituary

Mary Joann Pliego, 75, of Kingston, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Kingston, a daughter of the late Peter and Josephine Hricisak Sember.

Mary was a graduate of St. Ursula Academy, a lifelong devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Church and a member of its Rosary Society, a member of the White Eagle Ladies Auxiliary and a faithful adorer at the Immaculate Conception Adoration Chapel. Mary and her husband were retired from the Kingston Hospital after 47 years of employment in food service. For over 4o years Mary was in charge of the cooking for the annual parish bazaar. She enjoyed traveling, baking, bowling and her cats, but most of all, spending time with her grandsons and family.

Mary is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Jaycox of TN; her sister, Anna Sember and brother-in-law Jeff Jayson of TN; her sister-in-law, Karen Sember of NV; grandsons, Donovan and Dylan Lind of New Paltz; many nieces and nephews; her best friend, Alice Anson and her daughter/caregiver, Lisa Dennin.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Pliego, who she married June 21, 1971, their daughter, Jillian Lind and Mary’s brothers, Ronald and Stephen Sember.

At Mary’s request there will be no visitation.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be sung on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, 467 Delaware Avenue, Kingston. NY followed by burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in the family plot.

In lieu of flowers, Mary requested donations be made to the Town of Saugerties Animal Shelter, 1765 Rt 212, Saugerties, NY 12477 or Hudson Valley Hospice, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or The Immaculate Conception Church Rosary Society.

Members of the Rosary Society are invited to the church to recite the Rosary for Mary at 10:00 am, prior to her mass.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Henry J. Bruck Funeral Home, 261 Broadway, Kingston, NY.
