Lillian M. Adams, 97, of Port Ewen, NY entered into eternal rest Monday, November 10, 2025.
She was born in Kingston, NY, the daughter of the late Charles H. & Lillian Ahl Styles.
Lillian was a graduate of St. Peter’s School, the Academy of St. Ursula and Moran’s-Spencerian School of Business. She was employed by the New York Telephone Co for 12 years then joined IBM in Kingston in 1958, retiring after 32 years of service as a Senior Education Specialist. Whilte at IBM, she received an Outstanding Contribution Award for the creation and development of a Secretarial Program and a Division President’s Award for administration and co-ordination of the Graduate Work-Study and IBM Systems Research Institute Programs.
Lillian was past president of the Kingston-Poughkeepsie Chapter of the National Secretaries Association (International), vice-president of the Columbiettes of Kingston Council #275, a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, St. Ursula Alumnae Association and the Notre Dame Club of the Hudson Valley. She was also certified for boating skills and steamship by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and assisted in the development of educational material for the local chapter. For several years she served on the Business Advisory Council at SUNY, Ulster. Her writings were published in “the Secretary”, “From Nine to Five”, “Lincoln Eagle”, “Reminisce” and the Poetry Society of America. For many years, Lillian was soloist in area minstrels and participated in variety shows and at organizational or charitable functions. She soloed in the operetta “O’HaraSan”; and the cantata “Via Crucis”. During WWII she served in the local defense corps as an aircraft observer and was certified and awarded an armband and wings by the Army Air Forces Flight Command Crew Observer Corps. Her certificate, armband and wings were accepted for the civilian defense exhibition area at the WWII Museum. Lillian was a dedicated Notre Dame and Army football fan, an avid reader, made sun catchers and assembled and preserved puzzles. She found joy and comfort from the wooded area of her property which was a haven for innumerable birds, area, seasonal, migratory and her families of cardinals. She was entertained by the wildlife from her chipmunks, squirrels, raccoons, woodchuck families and looked forward to the appearance of the seasonal herd of deer.
She was especially grateful for the many kindnesses, caring and support from Cheryl Matthews and Roger and Wendy Brandt.
Lillian is survived by a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Styles of Stone Ridge, wife of Lillian’s beloved brother, C. Joseph Styles. Several cousins also survive.
She was also preceded in death by her baby brother, Edward Raymond Styles.
At Lillian’s request there will be no visitation.
A Mass of Christina Burial will be sung at 10: 00 am, on November 17, 2025, at the Immaculate Conception Church, followed by burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery
