Berenice A. Smith of Kingston, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday morning. November 16th. She had been a resident of The Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Catskill, NY for a short time.
Berenice was born on February 26, 1925, the second youngest of 13 children born to William and Rose Harbeck McElrath.
She met a young car salesman named Gerald A. Smith, and in July 1951, they married in St. Peter’s Church in Kingston, becoming communicants there for many years thereafter.
She is predeceased by her husband, parents and all of her siblings.
She leaves behind to honor her memory, two daughters, Kathy Dias (James) of Glenmont, NY and Deborah Soura (George) of Leeds, NY as well as grandchildren Bryan Sarafin (Heather), Katherine Bradley (Brian), Gregory Dias (Monroe), Harli Soura (Seth), Stephen Dias and 3 great grandchildren, Lincoln Sarafin, Weston Sarafin and Isla Bradley and at last but not least, numerous nieces and nephews all of whom loved her deeply.
We are profoundly grateful to the staff of The Pines for providing the most loving care for Berenice and unwavering support for her family. We also thank the hospice care team for gently guiding us through this most challenging of times.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Henry J. Bruck Funeral Home, 261 Broadway, Kingston, NY. Her funeral procession will form on Friday at 10:15 am at the funeral home then proceed to St. Joseph’s Church where at 11:00 am a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Burial to follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
