Obituary of Rae W. Merecka

Rae W. Merecka, 83, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 at HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston after a short illness. Born in Kingston, NY, Rae was the daughter of the late Raymond and Grace Gadd. Rae worked for Ferroxcube and IBM. For 50 years she was an election inspector for the City of Kingston, for 30 years an election inspector for the Kingston School District, a member of American Legion Post #150, a Kingston American Little League coach, president of Kingston American Girls Softball and had the honor of being captain of her high school cheerleading squad. Rae is survived by her children, William Merecka, Steven (Carol) Merecka and Brian (Anita) Merecka, all of Kingston; grandchildren, Michael, Shannon and Morgaen Merecka, Anna Marie Magyar, Tonya and Jon Kassler, Jr.; great grandson, Maverick and one on the way; a sister-in-law, Mary Rizzi of Lake George, NY; several nieces and nephews. Rae also leaves behind many dear friends and special people, including Joan VanWagner. Rae was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bud” Merecka (January 15, 1992) and a sister, Hazel and her husband Robert Foster. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 8, 2021, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Henry J. Bruck Funeral Home, 261 Broadway, Kingston, NY. Her funeral service will follow at 8:00 pm. Burial to follow at a later date. In the interest of public safety, and in keeping with COVID-19 guidelines, social distancing and masks are required at all times and guests will be limited at the funeral home.
