Obituary of Rev. Julian J. Guzman, SDS

Reverend Julian J. Guzman, SDS, a Salvatorian Priest for nearly 54 years, died suddenly, Monday, June 13, 2022, at the age of 87, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Father Guzman was born and raised in Manhattan, NY. He went to Divine Savior Seminary in Lanham, MD., professed his vows September 8, 1962 and was ordained on September 8, 1968. He taught theology in Wisconsin for a few years after ordination, then began parish ministry in Maryland and then, for the rest of his life, in New York State. Father resided in Ulster Park, NY and was well known throughout this area through his assistance at local Catholic churches. Father was one of six children born to the late Arturo and Mary Magdalena (Arroyo) Guzman. He is survived by a sister, Susan Parks of Bayside, NY; three nephews, Richard E. Campbell of West Hurley, NY, Christopher Parks of Clifton, NJ and Roger Guzman, Jr. of Yonkers, NY; a niece, Susan Kirby of Somers, NY. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Pearl Campbell, Roger, Umberto and Arturo Guzman, Jr. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at St. Colman’s R.C. Church in East Kingston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung at 11:00 am on Saturday at St. Catherine Laboure’ R.C. Church in Lake Katrine. Burial to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Kingston. Funeral arrangements under the direction of the Henry J. Bruck Funeral Home, 261 Broadway, Kingston NY.
