I was looking for the name of an artist from the 2019 Art on the Rocks fair in Marquette, Michigan. I didn't find his name, but instantly remembered Joel Zaretsky's name. I purchased one of his pieces, a likeness of Ganesha. It was so interesting to see Joel's varied subjects -- Judaism, Hinduism, love, so much more. His style was unique, and I am glad I have Ganesha prominently displayed in one of my stores. I love it. I was sad to see an obituary when I searched to see if he was planning to attend this year's art on the rocks. I'm sorry for your loss, but know that his work is appreciated. He was one-of-a-kind. May his memory be a blessing.

I own two of Joel's paintings from the 1980s, and I think of meeting him often. It was first at a Connecticut art fair, and I couldn't decide between the two pieces. We enjoyed our conversation and I continued on, but returned to make my selection. The heat of the day had gotten to him, and he was beginning to pass out. I got him on the ground, got him cool compresses and water, and staffed his booth for him the rest of the day. He recovered, and gifted me the second painting in gratitude. He recognized me at another art fair a few years later in Lancaster, PA. Such a nice and talented guy. My prayers go out for the progress of his soul in the spiritual realm, and a smile of remembrance when I look at his paintings I treasure.

Deepest, deepest condolences to the family, especially Adam.I remember Joel feeding sardones to you after you graduated from the skinner box,& his highest hopes & freedoms for you,& the Torah lessons. We almost connected in the last year when I found him & was interested in the 4 seasons piece. I remember the stringies, the clothing industry jokes(as was my grandma), the deep love,& how he made me laugh so hard when we were being scuba certified. He was a Psych lab partner& there were endless rat jokes. He loved athletic adventures, reasoning & love, like no other. He was taken far too soon. Please keep talking to him. He is watching over you.
