Obituary of Verna K. Ticknor
Verna K. Ticknor, 95, formerly of Hurley, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home. She was s born in Ellenville New York on April 22, 1928 to the late Mary and Vernon Krom.
Verna graduated from the University of Albany with a master’s degree in library science. On August 10, 1952 she married Kenneth Ticknor. They enjoyed over 60 years of marriage until his death in 2013.
Verna's career spanned many decades as an elementary school librarian. Reading was her passion. She retired from the Rondout Valley school district in the early 90s. Verna was also a founding member of the Hurley Library. She is survived by her children, Tammy Carpino and her husband, Edwin of Kingston and Thomas Ticknor, and his wife, Piper of Lomontville; grandchildren, Nicholas (Megan) Carpino, Bradley Carpino, Taylor (Tajea) Johnson, Sofi and Levi Ticknor; great grandchildren Isabella , Keegan, Kolby, Gabriella, Tajea and Violet.
There will be no callnig hours.
Graveside services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, March 4, 2024 at the Hurley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Hurley Library Association, PO Box 660, Hurley, NY 12443.
