Obituary of Frances Mary Figueroa
Frances (Franny) Mary Figueroa, 71, a resident of Ferncliff/Archcare in Rhinecliff, NY since 2018 died peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2024 after battling Alzheimer for close to 15 years. From 2014 until 2018 she had been
a resident/patient at Ivy Lodge in Saugerties.
She born in Queens, NY to the late Ethel (Lacayo) Figueroa and Rafael S. Figueroa. She moved to South Cairo, Greene County NY when she was about 3 years old, graduated from Cairo Central High School, class of 1970.
Graduated from Ulster County Community College with an Associate Degree, and the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management in March of 2004. She worked with the Peace Corps in Zambia in 2006/2007 where she worked as a Rural Fish Cultural Extension Agent. Her job entailed training farmers to create small aquaculture businesses in order to generate a sustainable source of income and nutrition in an effort to alleviate poverty and hunger in rural Zambia.
Frances lived a short time in uptown Kingston after graduating from UCCC then moved to California for most of her adult life where she owned her own business called Magical Toffee. She enjoyed making her famous Almond Toffee for many years until she became ill. She was also very active in the Special Olympics in her community in California. She was a big fan to all her teams at their events.
Franny was an avid runner. She had run in many marathon along with the NYC Marathon. Her love for her cat "Mutali" kept her going and happy for a long time. Franny loved to travel and had backed packed in Europe going threw six Countries in 6 weeks. Franny loved our family Thanksgiving get together annually and always made the trip from California to upstate NY.
She is survived by her brother Rafael A. Figueroa (Rebecca) of Rexford, NY; nephew Nathan; nieces Rachael and Julia; her sisters MaryAnn Miller (Dennis), of Port Ewen NY; nieces, Jennifer (God Daughter) and Michelle; sister Joan Kistner (Jim) of New Hartford, NY; nephew,Todd; nieces, Allison & Kristen; sister Katherine Brooks (Kenneth)of Chevy Chase, Maryland; nieces Kareena and Krista. Plus nieces and nephew Nicole, Jaime and Tom, along with several great nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Frances was preceded in death by her sister, Colette Steiro; nephew William Luefkens; sisters Margaret Graziano and Gigi Centaro.
A Service of the Burial of the Dead with Holy Communion will be held on Saturday (March 9th) at 11:00 am at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Livingston Street, Kingston, NY with Reverend Paul Britton officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, NY.
In lieu of flowers a donation in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2649 South Road, Suite 101, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
