Obituary of Anton J. Stegner

Anton “Tony” J. Stegner passed away on July 14, 2024. He was 95. Tony was born in Bavaria, Germany on December 23, 1928 to Jakob Stegner and Bertha Baunch. He was the oldest of four siblings. He was married in October 1948 to Rita Höffer. Tony served in the German Army, prior to coming to the United States in 1951. His wife Rita later joined him in 1952. Tony served in the US Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Germany, from June 1954 to June 1956, achieving the rank of Private First Class before being honorably discharged. When Tony came to the United States, he worked as an auto mechanic on Long Island before opening his own business, Your Servicenter, in 1956. During this same time, he and Rita started their family, having three children: Daniel, Raymond, and Donna. In 1971, the family then moved to Kingston, where Tony also moved the business. Tony was very involved in his local community in the Kingston area. He was a life member of Bloomington Fire Department, was a member of the VFW, and was also involved in the Kingston Maennerchor and Damenchor. Tony also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. Tony is predeceased by his parents; his siblings Edgar, who perished at a young age, Edgar, who was named for the first Edgar, and Willy; his wife Rita and his children, Daniel and Donna. Tony is survived by his son Raymond, daughter-in-law Corrina; and his grandchildren, Ashley and her fiance, Christopher Barnhart, and Raymond, Jr. The Family would like to thank everyone at Mountain Valley Manor, Hospice and the additional aides that were caring for Tony. Your care and dedication were greatly appreciated. Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 25 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Henry J. Bruck Funeral Home, 261 Broadway, Kingston, NY with funeral services on Friday, July 26 at 11 am at the funeral home. Private inurnment will take place at the Gerald B.H.Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY where Tony will be re-united with his wife. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kingston Maennerchor and Damenchor or Bloomington Fire Department.
