Obituary of Helen M. Lehtonen

Helen M. Lehtonen, 97, formerly of Hurley, NY passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingston where she received compassionate care from the nursing and support staff in her final days. She was an only child born in Kelly's Corners NY to the late Eber and Neva (McEwan) Kelly. Her family moved to the Fleischmanns area where she spent her youth. Helen graduated from Fleischmanns High School where she was active in sports, especially her high school basketball team. On December 23, 1934 she married Andrew S. Lehtonen and moved to Kingston. In 1940 they built a home in Hurley. Helen was one of the oldest living members of the Hurley Reformed Church and a founding member of the Hurley Grange. She worked at Hercules Power Co. during the early 1950's then retired from EG&G Rotron in the late 1960's. After retirement she did volunteer work at the Benedictine Hospital. Survivors include a daughter, Adele L. Bruck and her husband Henry J. (Jack) of Kingston; granddaughters, Amanda L. Bruck-Little and her husband Greg of Saugerties and Andrea L. Beaver and her husband Tim and their daughter Ashley T. Beaver of Kingston; nieces and nephews on her husband's side from out of the area who always came to visit her. Friends and relatives will be received Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Henry J. Bruck Funeral Home, 261 Broadway, Kingston, NY. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Robert Gram, pastor of the Hurley Reformed Church officiating. Burial to follow at a later date in the Hurley Cemetery along side of her husband who preceded her in death on June 1, 1999.
