Obituary of Harry Bruce Bruck

Harry "Bruce" Bruck, 89, passed away at his Yarmouth St. home on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Bruce, the eldest of 13 children born to the late Harry J. and Ethel J. (Krum) Bruck, was born in Kingston on June 7, 1925. At the age of 17 Bruce enlisted in the US Navy and served his country during WW II aboard the USS Canberra CA70, a heavy cruiser in the South Pacific assigned to protect US carriers from enemy aircraft. Stationed in the bow of the ship, called the "8" turret, his job was to locate the guns in the enemy aircraft. Bruce retired from the N Y Central Rail Road and the Town of Ulster Highway Department. He had also worked at Abel's Market and Green Acres Golf Course. He was a founding member of St. Philomena's Church which is now St. Catherine Laboure Church in Lake Katrine, a member of Joyce Schirick Post #1386 VFW and American Legion Post #150. Bruce is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Lucille Desco, who he married September 26, 1948; a son, Thomas B. Bruck and his wife Alice of Myrtle Beach, SC; a daughter, MaryEllen "Mel" Lange and her husband Louis of Kingston; grandchildren, Jaime LaPolla and her husband Michael, Chris and John Bruck; great grandchildren, Madison Bruck, Emma LaPolla, Abigail LaPolla and Christopher Bruck; siblings, Regina LaConture and her husband Louis of Kingston, Gerald J. Bruck and his wife Esther of Kingston, Joseph R. Bruck and his wife Georgia of Connelly; many nieces and nephews. Bruce was preceded in death by siblings, Barbara A. Betkowski, Patricia J. Bruck, Theresa Joan Huber, Mary Margaret McHugh, Edward R. Bruck and Ronald J. Bruck. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday 2:00 - 6:00 pm at the Henry J. Bruck Funeral Home, 261 Broadway, Kingston, NY. Funeral procession will form 8:45 am Monday at the funeral home thence proceed to St. Catherine Laboure Church, Lake Katrine where at 9:30 am a Mass of Christian Burial will be sung. Burial with full Military Honors by Joyce Schirick Post #1386 VFW Color Guard to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Kingston. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donation to the American Heart Association, 301 Manchester Rd, Suite 105, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. American Legion Post #150 members will meet at the funeral home 5:30 -pm Sunday to pay their respects to their departed comrade, Bruce.
