Obituary of Joseph Patrick Woods, Jr.

Joseph Patrick Woods, Jr., 63, of San Rafael, California, formerly of Kingston, NY, died accidentally on December 23, 2015 in the Russian River region of the Northern California coast as a result of a kayaking accident. Joseph was born in Kingston, NY on July 7, 1952, the second child of Joseph P. Woods, Sr. and Rose (Gregory) Woods. Joseph was a multi-faceted man who was both energetic and entrepreneurial. He embraced life and had a passion for hiking, skiing, dancing, reading, surfing and kayaking. He trained at the Culinary Institute and owned a restaurant in Kingston. Later as Chef, he managed larger kitchens in California and collaborated to launch several niche restaurants. Skillful at residential maintenance, he recently established a quickly successfully home repair business in the San Francisco Bay area. He was predeceased by his father Joseph Sr. and his sister Victoria. He is survived by his devoted partner Stephanie Berglund, his mother Rose, his sister Christine (Woods) Landers, numerous loving in-laws, many relatives and a host of life-long friends. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:00 am on Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Kingston. Burial to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
