Obituary of Harriet Galdi
Harriet H. Galdi, an independent lady, who lived on her own and recently celebrated her 100th birthday, passed away April 15, 2017 in Melbourne, FL. She was born in Kingston, NY, January 15, 1917, to the late William C. and Anna (Bell) Hussey. Her husband of 62 years, Ernest Galdi, who passed away on August 27, 2014.
Harriet had a very formal upbringing where manners, education and etiquette were important. She was educated in Catholic Schools and after graduation from college taught at St. Paul’s Grade School in New Jersey from where she retired then moved to Florida.
She was a strong, generous, very kind, very intelligent person who instilled in her children what is right and wrong in everything in life. She raised her son and daughter with the same values she was taught by her parents.
She loved athletics, roller skating and going to summer camp where she later became a camp instructor. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting and playing bridge with her lady friends but most of all swimming. Until she was about 90 years old she swam a mile every day in the pool. After 90 and up until her 99th birthday swimming was reduced to a half mile a day.
Harriet is survived by her daughter, Grace Galdi Maurer; her son, William Galdi; Grandchildren, Peter, Joey and Jillian Galdi and Great-Grandsons Tyler and Tate Galdi.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Mary’s Church in Kingston, NY on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:00 am. Burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of the Henry J. Bruck Funeral Home, Inc., 261 Broadway, Kingston, NY.
